Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is an exam conducted by the central government and State government of India. Almost every year this exam is conducted by the Central government and respective state governments of India. It is a qualifying exam to become a teacher in the government schools of India. CTET means Central TET conducted by the Central government of India to recruit teachers in the different schools of the Central Government like KVS, Navadaya, etc.
State TET is conducted by all the states’ governments to recruit teachers in the government schools of the respective states.
These exams are like UP TET, Bihar TET, Andhra Pradesh TET, and WB TET.
Educational Qualification for CTET and State TET
CTET and state government TET are conducted every year as per the rules of the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE). This exam is conducted to recruit teachers for the classes 1st to 8th of government schools. Central government organizes two papers for CTET. Paper 1 is for the primary level and paper 2 is for the elementary level.
The eligibility criteria to appear for CTET or State TET exam are the following…
CTET/State TET Educational qualification for (Classes 1 to 5): Primary Level
Candidates must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (with minimum 50% marks) from a recognized University/Institution.
OR
Applicants must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (with a minimum of 45% marks) in accordance with the NCTE, Regulations, 2002.
OR
Aspirants must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 4 years of Bachelors’ Degree of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) from a recognized University/Institution (with at least 50% marks).
OR
Candidates must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Special Education(with at least 50% marks) from a recognized University/Institution.
OR
Candidates must have cleared the Graduation (with at least 50% marks) and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) from a recognized University/Institution.
CTET Educational qualification (Classes 6 to 8): Elementary Level or Upper Primary
Candidates must have cleared the Graduation and also must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education from a recognized University/Institution.
OR
Candidates must have cleared the Graduation (with minimum 50% marks) and passed or appearing in the first year of Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) from a recognized University/Institution.
OR
Candidates must have cleared the Graduation (with a minimum of 45% marks) and passed or appearing in 1 year of Bachelors Degree in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE Regulations in Education (B.Ed).
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and Candidates must have cleared the Graduation of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed).
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and Candidates must have cleared the Graduation of 4- year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.
OR
Graduation with at least 50% marks and Candidates must have cleared or appeared in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).
OR
Candidates must have cleared the Graduation in B.Ed. Programs recognized by the NCTE are eligible to appear in TET/CTET.
***New Addition to Educational Qualification
According to the revised CBSE CTET Eligibility Criteria, aspirants who have completed post-graduation (in any discipline) with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade along with a 3-year integrated B.Ed – M.Ed can appear for CTET Exam Paper 1 and Paper 2.
CTET State TET Age Limit
The age limit of the candidates must be as follows..
- Minimum Age- 17 years.
- Maximum Age- No limit.
CTET & State TET Exam Pattern For Primary Level (Class I to V)
The exam pattern of CTET and State TET is the same. This is a qualifying exam. There are 150 questions. Qualifying marks of this exam are 60% for general and 55% for reserved category candidates.

Validity of CTET and State TET Certificate
The validity of the CTET or State TET certificate is a lifetime. If a candidate qualifies for this exam, he can appear for the main exam or interview every year. He or she does not need to qualify CTET or the state TET exam again.
